Over the past couple of weeks I have been experiencing somethings that I feel is related to this course. Recently at my workplace I got a new manager. This person is a white male in his early to mid 50′s. As many people may know it is always an adjustment when a new person joins your staff at the workplace. This individual has a very bold, strict personality (it is either his way or no way), which I can only guess comes from his military background. He has come into the workplace and made many unnecessary changes and some necessary ones. It not about the changes he is making, but it is about the approach he takes to make these changes. The staff at my workplace is all women, I am sure he has some of his own challenges during with an office full women. He is a very unemphatic person, one of the employees who works there has a 2 year son. The other day he came up to her and said, ” You need to work this weekend to make up some hours that you missed from the previous week.” She said, “I can not work this weekend I do not have a babysitter for my son.” He said, “That is not my problem you need to figure it out and be here.” As you can imagine this was very upsetting to her. There was another instance when he said to another employee, “Do I need to send you home so you an sit on the coach and eat some bon bon’s and think about what I have said to you.” You have to wonder if the employee was a male would those kind of comments be made. I hate to say it, but I think not.

If my observations are correct, military is a lot like clergy. Not only does it really mess people up, it also attracts very messed up people to begin with.
A cycle, like so many things are.
